About This Guide To Biking In Vermont

This site is an independent guide to riding a bike in Vermont: rail trails like the Lamoille Valley, Kingdom Trails in East Burke, the Burlington waterfront and Stowe paths, plus foliage timing and where to stay.

What We Write About

Pages cover trail systems, rail trails, bike and e-bike rentals, foliage timing and routes from Burlington to the Northeast Kingdom. Short answers handle common questions.

The pages here cover the riding itself: Kingdom Trails in East Burke, the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail and its stretch through 18 towns, the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail up near the Canadian border, and the Island Line Trail out of Burlington. Each riding area gets its own guide, covering surface conditions, where to park, and what kind of bike suits the terrain.

Beyond the big trail networks, we write about the Stowe Recreation Path, road and gravel loops around Woodstock and Middlebury, and the causeway ride across Lake Champlain with its seasonal bike ferry. There are also pages on foliage timing, when each part of the state turns, and how to plan a stay around it. Guided operators such as VBT and Great Bike Tours are covered too, with readers booking direct.

How This Site Earns Money

Hotel cards link to Expedia through Travelpayouts, and a completed booking may pay this site a small fee. No tour or ride earns us anything, and we sell nothing ourselves.

The hotel cards you see near each riding area are the only place this guide earns anything. Book a stay through one of those listings and a small payment comes back to the site, at no extra cost to you. Nothing else does. Naming a rental shop or a trail association, describing a ferry across Lake Champlain, or pointing you toward a guide in Burke brings in nothing, so those recommendations stand or fall on their own merits.

This guide earns money in one way only: when you book a place to stay through a hotel link near each riding area, the site receives a small payment from that booking. Nothing you pay changes. The trails, guides, rental shops and towns described here earn this site nothing, and no operator pays to appear or to be described favorably. If you never book a hotel, the riding advice is still free to use, and always will be.

Our Standards

Our standards are simple. Facts about trails, passes, ferries and riding areas come from the trail managers, Local Motion, the State of Vermont and Kingdom Trails, and readers are pointed to official pages wherever a price or policy can shift. Where a figure could not be confirmed in those sources, we print none rather than guess. We accept no payment from tour operators, and we name only real, bookable ones.

We do not pretend to have ridden every mile we describe, and we do not rank operators against each other. VBT, Great Bike Tours, Lamoille Valley Bike Tours, Vermont Mountain Bike Tours and Local Motion are named because they run rides here, and readers contact them directly. When a policy is genuinely unclear, such as Vermont rules on helmets or how much room a car must give a cyclist, we say so instead of guessing.
